ATTRACTIONS

Acropolis Museum: (15 minutes walk – 700 m) Located on the Acropolis hill. Contains most of the finds from around the Acropolis, including many sculptures. Highlights of the museum include fragments of the Parthenon frieze as well as the Korai maidens.

Byzantine Museum: (10 minutes walk – 500 m) It contains a large collection of icons, and other Byzantine and post-Byzantine art. Housed in a Florentine-style villa. Walk through a reproduction of a cruciform church.

Benaki Museum: (10 minutes walk – 400 m) This museum which is devoted mainly to Greek and oriental art, houses the collection of Antonis Benaki, a patron of the arts who founded a family in Egypt and made a fortune in cotton. The exhibits that have been augmented by later bequests are appropriately displayed in the setting of an early 20Cpatrician mansion in Benaki’s own house.
